Drexyl, accompanied by Carpe and Ray, was shoved into a room that had dozens of large holding cells. He ran a finger through his freshly moussed hair and looked around, hoping there were some female guards around. He was disappointed.

“No really, what did you guys do to Kirian?” Drexyl asked, banging on the bars.

“Yeah, what in stars name is going on here?” Carpe chimed in.

Ray sat silently.

“Settle down, you guys.” The voice that said it came from the back of the room. The guy attached to the voice appeared to be playing his phone and was annoyed at having to pay attention to the new prisoners who were brought in.

He looked up now and seemed to size them up. “I may as well tell you the truth since you probably won’t shut up about it until I do, and I’d really like you to shut up. The truth won’t be a secret for very long anyway, and even if you do ever get out of here nobody will believe you.”

“Get on with it,” Ray said.

“Well, as you heard, there’s a new guy in town. He’s in charge now. And he is taking possession of the Celestials. She is a Celestial, right?”

“Yes,” Drexyl said, “she was. But she was freed. I saw it with my own eyes.”

“That freedom was only temporary. Until the new guy came. Try to keep up.”

“You mean Mantix?”

“Yes.”

“Tell us about your boss, this Mantix,” Ray pressed. “What’s he like?”

“He’s like nothing you guys have ever seen. Now shut up.”

“I don’t know,” Drexyl said, “I’ve seen an awful lot.” Then he remembered something.

“Hey, isn’t this place supposed to be haunted or something? What’s up with that? I gotta say I’m very disappointed.”

“I said shut up. And this place isn’t really haunted, that’s just something stupid Brock made up.”

“What?” Drexyl asked.

“Brock. Thought that adding the haunted part would add mystery to the whole thing and draw in the Celestials faster.” He pointed to the other full holding cells. “But all it seemed to do was to attract a bunch of annoying, paranormal investigating pirates. We told him to change the mythology on the internet, remove it, anything. He said it was on his to-do list, but he obviously hasn’t done it yet.”

Drexyl laughed out loud at the other pirates as he and the rest of the crew were locked in a cell.

“What’re you laughing at?” one of them asked. “You’re the one coming in here asking about the ghosts.”

“Sure, I asked about them. But that’s not the reason I’m here,” Drexyl answered.

“Then why are you here?” the guy with phone game asked, looking up at last.

“No reason,” Drexyl said, but the room had gotten quiet and he had idiotically called way too much attention to himself and the rest of the crew. He was out of practice with this whole outlaw thing since he had been locked away with Soda so long.

He dipped his shoulders dramatically and hung his head. “Fine. Ghosts. I’m here for the ghosts.”

Laughter rang out all around him and the guy in charge went back to playing his game.
